Telegram and Etidal Strike Hard: 16M Extremist Posts Removed in 2025.!

top-news

·      “Telegram and Etidal remove 16M extremist posts in 2025, totalling 177M since 2022.! #TelegramSafety”

In a massive crackdown, Telegram and Saudi Arabia’s Etidal Center wiped out over 16 million pieces of extremist content in just the first three months of 2025. This ongoing battle against online extremism, which began in 2022 has now removed a staggering 177 million harmful posts. Discover how this partnership is making the internet safer.!

Details & Context
The Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology, known as Etidal, teamed up with Telegram to tackle dangerous online content in the first quarter of 2025. Based in Riyadh, Etidal focuses on monitoring Arabic-language propaganda, targeting groups like ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. From January to March 2025 they removed 16,062,667 extremist posts including PDFs, videos and audio clips as reported by the @SaudiPressAgency (SPA) on May 11th, 2025. They also shut down 1,408 channels spreading hate and violence.

This isn’t a new fight. Since February 2022, Etidal and Telegram have been working together to stop the spread of extremist ideas online. By the end of March 2025 their joint efforts had erased 176,758,457 pieces of harmful content and closed 16,201 channels. The partnership started after growing concerns about Telegram being used by terrorist groups to share propaganda, recruit members and plan attacks. Etidal uses advanced tech to track and flag dangerous material while Telegram ensures swift removal, showing their commitment to a safer digital space.

Recent X posts highlight the scale of this issue. Users noted that January 9th, 2025 saw a peak in extremist activity, with over 450,000 pieces of content shared in a single day. Etidal’s efforts have been praised for their focus on Arabic content, a key area for extremist outreach, ensuring these messages don’t reach vulnerable audiences.

Quotes

·      “Etidal and Telegram are protecting minds and communities.!” – A user on X, reflecting public sentiment.

·      “This partnership is a game-changer for online safety.” – A Saudi official, as per @SPA reports.

·      “We’re building a safer digital world together.” – Etidal’s mission statement, shared on their official site.

Additional Information
X posts from May 11th-12th, 2025 show strong public support for Etidal and Telegram’s efforts with users calling it “the best morning news” and celebrating the removal of 16 million extremist posts. Hashtags like #Etidal and #TelegramSafety trended with over 50K mentions each. @GoogleTrends for May 2025 reveals a 70% surge in searches for “Telegram Remove Extremist Content” and “Etidal 2025 Impact” driven by the @SPA report. Web sources like Saudi Gazette (May 2025), note that Etidal’s tech flagged a 12.8% rise in extremist activity during Q2 2024, showing the ongoing challenge.

Impact Analysis
The removal of 16 million extremist posts in Q1 2025 has a huge impact. First, it disrupts the communication networks of groups like ISIS making it harder for them to recruit or spread hate. This protects vulnerable users, especially youth from radicalisation—studies show 60% of extremist recruitment happens online. Second, it boosts Telegram’s reputation as a safer platform, encouraging more users to trust it for communication. However, challenges remain. Extremist groups often shift to other platforms, as seen with a 15% rise in propaganda on smaller apps in 2024. Etidal’s focus on Arabic content is a strength but global coordination is needed to tackle multilingual propaganda. Overall, this effort sets a strong example for tech platforms worldwide, proving that collaboration can make the internet safer.

Conclusion
Telegram and Etidal’s partnership is a powerful force against online extremism. With 16 million posts removed in 2025 and 177 million since 2022, they’re leading the charge for a safer digital world. As they continue to innovate and collaborate, the internet becomes a harder place for hate to thrive. Stay updated on this critical fight.!
