Moderate Earthquake Happened Nagaland - Myanmar Border

An earthquake happened on 3rd day of new year (Friday morning, 3rd January) of magnitude nearby 5 struck near the Nagaland - Myanmar border. The tremors were felt of North East India, across Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and several other areas in Bangladesh, including Dhaka.
Earthquake Details
According to the report of United States Geological Survey (USGS) the earthquake occurred at Friday morning 10:32 AM near Phek district located 128 kilometres southeast of Nagaland close to the Myanmar border. The earthquake originated at a depth of 159 kilometres beneath the earth surface.
Impact in Bangladesh
Residents in North East India, Bangladesh’s Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and even the capital city of Dhaka reported feeling the tremors. Despite the widespread shaking, there have been no reports of casualties or damage to property cause of the earthquake.
Witness Accounts
Several Sylhet residents took to social media platforms like Facebook to share their experiences about the earthquake. Bangladeshi Journalist Kawsar Chowdhury and Sadeq Ahmed Azad mentioned feeling the tremors in their respective areas.
One of resident of Mirer Maidan in Sylhet whose name is Sultana Islam, recounted her experience, "I was sitting on a chair when I noticed the ceiling fans suddenly start shaking. Out of fear, I immediately left the house."
Official Statements of Bangladesh
Meteorologist Mr. Mominul Islam from Dhaka confirmed that the earthquake's epicentre was near the India - Myanmar border. Shah Mohammad Sajib Ahmed an assistant meteorologist in Sylhet was stated that the tremor lasted for a few seconds and it was recorded at 10:32:40 AM.
