Storm Eowyn Causes Power Outages and Travel Chaos Across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Storm Eowyn has left almost one million homes and businesses without power across the UK and Ireland with severe weather causing major travel disruptions. Strong winds of up to 114 mph damaged properties, uprooted trees and affected trains, flights and ferries. Authorities are working to restore essential services but recovery may take days in some areas.


Power Outages and Damages

- Over 625,000 properties in Ireland are without power with officials warning it could take several days for restoration.

- Northern Ireland, Scotland and parts of England are also heavily impacted with 214,000, 106,000 and 20,000 homes and businesses, respectively still without electricity.


Travel Disruptions

- Train services remain disrupted especially in Scotland where overhead line damage is extensive.

- Major ferry operators like CalMac and Irish Ferries are resuming operations but delays continue.

- Airports in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast warn passengers to expect ongoing challenges.


Weather Warnings in Place

- Yellow warnings for wind, rain, snow and ice are active in parts of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England.

- Flood alerts have been issued in several areas including Salisbury, the Scottish coast and parts of Wales.

Community Impact

Residents across affected regions are reporting significant property damage. A Scottish resident described the storm as “like an earthquake,” while an electrician in Cardross shared how trees fell rapidly blocking roads.


The aftermath of Storm Eowyn continues to disrupt lives with strong winds and heavy rain expected in the coming days. Authorities urge caution, especially in areas under weather and flood alerts. Residents are advised to stay updated on local warnings and travel advisories as recovery efforts continue.
