The Election Commission (EC) is working on a new policy to make the “National ID (NID) correction process” more accessible and humane. A decision regarding this was taken in the “third commission meeting” held on January 30th at the Election Commission office, led by “AMM Nasir Uddin”.
Context
Addressing concerns related to the “NID correction process” Election Commissioner “Brig. Gen. (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah” stated that many citizens face challenges in rectifying errors in their national ID details. Some of these issues are purely “legal”, while others require a more “humanitarian approach”.
To address this the commission has “formed a special committee” to review the challenges faced by people across “Bangladesh”. This committee will assess all reported issues and suggest ways to “simplify” the process while ensuring legal compliance. Cases that cannot be legally resolved will be systematically rejected with proper justification.

Additional Information
182 organisations currently access services from the national database. In light of recent security concerns the “EC is also working to strengthen the security features” of the system. The proposed security enhancements have been referred to the concerned committee for further review.
With the new policy under development, the Election Commission aims to ensure a “faster, fairer and more secure NID correction system”. The upcoming changes are expected to ease the burden on citizens while maintaining “data integrity and legal accuracy”.
