Festival Promotes Rural Tourism and Local Economy

Madinah recently hosted the “Countryside Winter" festival” a three-day event organised by “Reef Saudi”, the “Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program”. The festival aimed to promote “rural tourism”, support local farmers and showcase the cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia’s countryside.

With over 7,000 attendees, the event attracted both locals and tourists who explored traditional agricultural products, handmade crafts and authentic rural experiences.

A Celebration of Agriculture and Heritage

Reef Saudi spokesperson Majed Al-Buraikan highlighted that the festival featured 22 program participants presenting a variety of local goods, including

- Fresh fruits and organic produce

- Natural honey and aromatic oils

- Traditional handicrafts and textiles

Visitors also enjoyed cultural performances, folk music and interactive exhibits on sustainable farming, creating an engaging experience for all age groups.

Empowering Small Farmers and Entrepreneurs

The festival not only provided entertainment but also emphasised economic sustainability. Each stall told a success story showcasing how small farmers and artisans have benefited from modern agricultural training and marketing support provided by Reef Saudi.

According to Al-Buraikan the festival demonstrated the growing public interest in supporting local businesses contributing to economic growth and higher quality production in the region.

Part of Vision 2030’s Development Goals

The event aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which focuses on economic diversification and improving rural living standards. Officials from the Madinah Region Development Authority emphasised that initiatives like this enhance the quality of life, cultural heritage, and economic opportunities in the region.

By strengthening the rural economy and providing marketing platforms for small-scale producers, Reef Saudi continues to drive sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
