Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has called on the international community to help rebuild Gaza without forcing Palestinians to leave their homes. Speaking at a press conference in Madrid he emphasised that Gaza’s reconstruction should ensure Palestinians remain in their homeland.

Egypt Rejects Forced Displacement

El-Sisi made it clear that Egypt will not accept any plan that involves moving Palestinians out of Gaza. His statement comes in response to a controversial proposal by the United States which suggested turning Gaza into a tourist resort after relocating its residents.

Many Arab countries including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar have rejected the proposal and are working on an alternative solution to support Gaza’s recovery.

The Role of UNRWA in Palestinian Aid

The UN Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA) plays a crucial role in providing food, healthcare and education to millions of Palestinians. However its operations in Gaza and the West Bank are now at risk due to an Israeli law that banned its activities in East Jerusalem and restricted its interaction with Israeli authorities.

With limited international funding UNRWA has warned that its services could suffer greatly affecting thousands of Palestinian families.

Arab Nations Discuss Next Steps

The leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE and Qatar are set to meet in Riyadh this month to discuss a joint plan for Gaza’s reconstruction. Their goal is to find a realistic solution that ensures Palestinians can rebuild their lives without losing their homeland. The final proposal is expected to be presented at the Arab League summit in Cairo in March.

Egypt is taking a firm stance on the Gaza issue pushing for a reconstruction plan that does not involve displacing Palestinians. With growing concerns over UNRWA’s future and regional stability Arab nations are working together to support Palestinian rights and ensure a sustainable future for Gaza.
