In a recent interview US President Donald Trump softened his stance on his controversial Gaza resettlement plan. He clarified that he was merely suggesting the idea not imposing it, following strong opposition from Jordan and Egypt.
Details & Context
Earlier this month President Trump unveiled a surprising plan to take control of Gaza a war-torn region and relocate its more than two million residents to neighbouring countries. The proposal involved the United States managing Gaza's reconstruction while urging Egypt and Jordan to accept displaced Palestinians.
However in a Friday interview on Fox News Radio’s “The Brian Kilmeade Show” Trump admitted that both Jordan and Egypt firmly rejected the plan. He acknowledged their stance describing the forced displacement of Palestinians as unfair.
“I was a little surprised they’d say that but they did” Trump commented adding that the US provides these countries with billions of dollars in aid annually.
Despite the rejection Trump stood by his proposal, asserting
“The way to do it is my plan. I think that’s a plan that really works, but I’m not forcing it. I’m just gonna sit back and recommend it.”

Additional Information
Trump's remarks coincided with an Arab leaders' summit in Riyadh on Friday where discussions focused on forming an alternative proposal for Gaza's post-war reconstruction. The leaders aimed to counter Trump’s plan by exploring more regionally acceptable solutions.
While Trump maintains confidence in his Gaza resettlement proposal the firm opposition from Jordan and Egypt signals a challenging road ahead. The unfolding situation adds complexity to the ongoing geopolitical landscape in the Middle East.
