An Israeli airstrike on Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza killed at least nine people including two journalists, according to Gaza’s health ministry. The attack which targeted a vehicle comes as Hamas leaders hold ceasefire talks in Cairo. The strike raises concerns about the stability of the ceasefire agreement signed on January 19th.

Details & Context

The airstrike hit a car carrying aid workers and journalists from the Al-Khair Foundation.

Several people were critically injured with bodies found inside and outside the vehicle.

Hamas officials are negotiating in Cairo to push for a long-term ceasefire but tensions remain high.

Israel has not issued an official statement regarding the airstrike.

Quotes

“Despite the ceasefire, civilian casualties continue to rise,” said a Gaza health official.

“We are open to negotiations if Israel agrees to move forward,” Hamas leaders stated in Cairo.

Additional Information

The ceasefire agreement in place since January 19th has been repeatedly violated.

Palestinian health officials report continued Israeli attacks despite the truce.

The Israeli military claims its operations target armed threats, not civilians.
