Record Breaking Saraswati Puja in Batanagar

Batanagar a locality in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas is hosting a Saraswati Puja like never before. This year visitors will witness the tallest Saraswati-themed pandal in the world towering at “111 feet”. The sight is almost unbelievable but those visiting the New Land ground in Batanagar will see this massive structure with their own eyes.

Two local clubs, ‘Batanagar Squad and Creation’, have been worshipping Goddess Saraswati for years. However for the first time they have ‘joined forces’ to create a grand celebration.

A Unique Artistic Marvel

Artist “Somnath Tamli” has masterfully designed this towering structure making it one of the most remarkable attractions of Saraswati Puja. While Kolkata has previously witnessed grand Durga idols, such an ‘Elaborate Saraswati-themed structure is a first’.

Organisers expect ‘Record-Breaking Footfall’ this year surpassing even the crowds seen during Durga Puja at the same venue. Ensuring ‘all necessary permissions’, the committee has worked closely with local authorities to avoid any legal hurdles due to the idol's height. Additionally ‘tight security measures’ have been implemented for public safety.

Grand Festivities and Celebrations

The puja was inaugurated on February 1st and as per the traditional calendar, the main rituals will be held on February 3rd. To enhance the festive spirit a fair will be set up around the venue, offering entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Preparations for this grand event ‘began over a month ago’ with cranes carefully installing the towering idol. In the final days ‘security measures were repeatedly reviewed’ to ensure a smooth and safe experience for devotees.

An Artistic Wonder in the Making

According to “Somnath Tamli” the pandal is crafted using bamboo, wood, cloth, thermocol and other materials. He believes that this extraordinary Saraswati idol will captivate everyone's hearts.

The puja is being conducted under the “guidance of Gopal Saha”, a local councillor of Maheshtala Municipality, Ward 34. He emphasised that innovation and grandeur were the inspirations behind this project adding that MP Abhishek Banerjee's vision for unique celebrations played a key role in shaping the idea.
