Kolkata’s East-West Metro services will be completely suspended on “Saturday and Sunday” due to ongoing construction work. Services will also be halted from Friday evening onwards, with operations resuming late on Monday. The East-West Metro has faced multiple disruptions recently. Earlier, services were suspended for a total of eight days in two phases due to similar construction work. The disruption traces back to 2019 when a major accident occurred at Durga Pituri Lane in Bowbazar during tunnel construction. The underground tunnel work caused cracks in several houses forcing authorities to halt the project temporarily. As a result metro services couldn’t start on time.

At present the metro runs from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade and Sealdah to Sector V. However the link between Esplanade and Sealdah remains incomplete.
