HMPV Cases are Rising in India....! Gujarat's Reports It is the First Case After Karnataka

After two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) were reported in Karnataka, now Gujarat has confirmed it is first case. A 2 month old baby child infant from Ahmedabad is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. While not fatal the virus but spreads rapidly and health experts urge caution.
HMPV Spreads Beyond Karnataka
The first confirmed cases of HMPV in India were reported in the state of Karnataka where two infants aged 3 and 8 months babies are tested positive. After the baby being tested HMPV positive, Both were treated for respiratory issues at Bengaluru's Baptist Hospital. According to the report, one baby is now safe and another one baby child has already discharged by the hospital. Now Gujarat reported its a first case of a 2 month old child infant from Ahmedabad's Chandkheda area.
What Is HMPV.?
HMPV virus identified in 2001 is a respiratory virus that spreads quickly, similar to COVID-19. While it is generally not life threatening, it can cause symptoms like:
Fever
Cough
Runny Nose
Difficulty Breathing
Medical Experts Speak Out
Dr. Devkishor Gupta stated that there is no need for panic as current data shows the virus is not widespread or severe. However he emphasised the importance of monitoring for the symptoms and staying vigilant.
Dr. Apurba Ghosh added, “HMPV is similar to the other mild viral infections but it can spread rapidly. It’s crucial to maintain hygiene and seek medical advice if symptoms worsen.”

Should We Be Concerned.?
According to the Dr. Shantasubhra Das who is the Director at the National Institute of Research in Bacterial Infections HMPV is not a new virus at all and its impact is generally mild. He noted “Post COVID people are more anxious about respiratory illnesses but there’s no cause for alarm at this point.”
Precautionary Measures
Doctors recommend the following precautions to reduce the risk of HMPV infection:
Wash hands frequently.
Avoid close contact with infected individuals.
Keep your environment clean.
Seek medical advice for prolonged symptoms.
