A building under construction at Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh collapsed on last Friday, trapping many workers under the debris. The collapse occurred during work on a two story building that was part of a project to improve the Kannauj station.

Details About Incident

Around 35 workers were present at the site when the station building collapsed. Rescue teams from the railway, police and local administration have saved almost 23 workers from the rubble so far.

District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukl said that the accident happened when the roof framework under construction collapsed. He also stated, "Our main priority is to save the trapped workers. We are using all resources for the rescue operation."

Additional Information

The UP state government has announced a compensation of Rs 50 thousand for those seriously injured and Rs 5 thousand for those with minor injuries. Rescue and relief operations are still ongoing and the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) from Lucknow has joined the efforts to help.
