The Delhi elections have reaffirmed the influence of welfare schemes in electoral success. While AAP banked on its existing free services BJP’s bigger financial promises swayed the voters. With West Bengal's 2026 elections on the horizon can BJP replicate its success with similar welfare tactics.?

Delhi’s Welfare War - BJP vs AAP

Delhi’s political battle was fuelled by competing welfare promises. AAP after a decade of governance, offered free electricity, healthcare and social security. However BJP countered with more attractive financial incentives ultimately securing voter trust.

Key promises from the 2025 Delhi elections

- AAP: Rs 2,100 per month for women, insurance for drivers, Rs 1 lakh for daughter’s weddings.

- BJP: Rs 2,500 per month for women, Rs 21,000 maternity assistance Rs 500 LPG subsidy. Voters favoured BJP’s fresh pledges over AAP’s existing policies.

Following BJP’s win, PM Narendra Modi emphasised women’s welfare

What This Means for Bengal 2026

Bengal’s political landscape mirrors Delhi’s welfare - driven elections. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC has gained support through:

- Lakshmir Bhandar: Rs 1,000 monthly for women.

- Kanyashree & Yuvashree: Financial aid for girls and unemployed youth.

- Banglar Bari Project: Rs 1.2 lakh for housing.

BJP aims to outmatch these with

- Rs 3,000 monthly for women.

- Rs 3 lakh housing grants.

- Increased subsidies and financial aid.

Will Welfare Guarantees Decide Bengal’s Fate.?

BJP sees Delhi’s results as a sign of shifting voter priorities. State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar stated

- “People have rejected false promises and embraced Modi’s guarantees.”

TMC however argues that Bengal’s scenario differs. Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh countered

- “BJP misleads with unfeasible promises. Mamata Banerjee delivers real welfare.”

With 2026 approaching both BJP and TMC will intensify their welfare campaigns. Whether Bengal follows Delhi’s trend or remains loyal to TMC depends on voter perception. The final verdict lies with the people.
