Terrorism In Kashmir | Kashmir Terror Attack, A Narrow Escape and National Outrage

top-news

A horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, dubbed “Mini Switzerland” claimed 26 lives including three from Bengal, on April 22nd, 2025. Tourists were targeted based on religious identity, sparking nationwide grief and fury. Sudipta Das, a Krishnanagar resident, narrowly escaped death by choosing a temple visit over the attack site. As India mourns, questions arise about security lapses and the government’s response.

Details & Context
The serene valleys of Pahalgam, a popular tourist spot in Jammu and Kashmir, turned into a nightmare when terrorists opened fire at a resort, firing over 40 rounds. Eyewitnesses claim victims were singled out based on religious identity, leaving 26 dead and many injured. The attack, the deadliest since Pulwama has reignited debates about safety in Kashmir, especially after the revocation of Article 370 which was touted as a step toward curbing terrorism.

Sudipta Das, a Krishnanagar native vacationing with his wife was set to visit the attack site but changed plans due to bad weather. Instead, they visited a nearby Shiv Mandir. “We were at the temple when we heard about the attack,” Sudipta shared. “It was a close call. If we hadn’t gone to the temple, we’d have been there.” Among the victims were familiar faces he met during his trip, amplifying his shock.

The attack has sent shockwaves across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the violence, vowing, “Terrorists will not succeed, and the guilty will face justice.” The Union Home Minister rushed to Pahalgam to meet affected families, while security forces are on high alert.
