Businessman’s Kidnapping in Panagarh.....! B.Tech Engineer and ECL Employee Arrested.

In a sensational breakthrough Budbud police have solved the Panagarh businessman’s kidnapping case, leading to the arrest of a B.Tech graduate and an ECL employee. The suspects demanded a Rs 50 lakh ransom but settled for Rs 6 lakh before releasing the victim.


Context

Budbud police cracked the case within 13 days, revealing the involvement of a gang of five in the abduction of Jayanta Garai, a businessman from Birudiha, Kanksa. The incident occurred on January 10 near Panagarh Bypass. The kidnappers assaulted the businessman and extorted Rs 6 lakh as ransom before releasing him.

DCP East of Asansol - Durgapur Police Commissionerate Abhishek Gupta addressed the press on Sunday night, alongside Budbud Police Station Officer-in-Charge Manojit Dhara and ACP Suman Kumar Jaiswal. He detailed the investigation which involved examining multiple leads and analysing CCTV footage from different areas.

The police arrested five suspects Abhijit Chakraborty, Supriyo Khawas, Sanjib Biswas, Soham Chattopadhyay and Bimalesh Kumar Thakur all residents of Durgapur and Kanksa. They also recovered Rs 1.12 lakh in cash a firearm with two rounds of ammunition, two magazines, a sharp weapon, five mobile phones, a motorcycle and a car used in the crime.


Additional Details

The police revealed that one of the arrested individuals is employed at ECL while another is a B.Tech graduate. The authorities are investigating their possible connections to other crimes and verifying their involvement in the abduction. 

The businessman had initially reported the incident, stating that five to six assailants kidnapped and assaulted him demanding Rs 50 lakh as ransom. The police investigation uncovered the trail that led to the arrests and recovery of the ransom money.
