The northeast monsoon is set to withdraw from South India within the next two days, as new Western Disturbances gear up to enter North India on Wednesday January 29th. Meanwhile parts of Bengal including Darjeeling and Kalimpong may witness light rainfall tomorrow marking a significant shift in weather patterns.
North India
Western Disturbances are poised to impact North India starting Wednesday January 29th, bringing fluctuations in day and night temperatures. The Jet Stream Winds and cyclonic circulations in Assam are likely to cause scattered weather changes across the region.
Temperature Trends
Kolkata’s night temperature saw a 4°C dip over 72 hours dropping from 18.5°C on Friday to 14.2°C on Sunday. A slight drop is expected tonight, bringing back winter chills. However by Wednesday temperatures are likely to rise again with a steady increase anticipated post Saraswati Puja on February 2nd.
Darjeeling and Kalimpong
Light rainfall is predicted tomorrow followed by foggy conditions across North Bengal districts including Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri.
South Bengal
A noticeable temperature drop of 2 - 3°C was recorded across South Bengal with further dips expected in the next 24 - 48 hours.
Fog and Mist
Light to moderate fog is likely in districts such as Paschim Medinipur, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum and Murshidabad. Early mornings in other regions may also experience light mist.

- Cold Wave Alert: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh remain under a cold wave advisory.
- Dense Fog: States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha will experience dense fog, while isolated regions in Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur may face reduced visibility.

Kolkata Weather Update
- Minimum Temperature: Dropped to 14.2°C from 15.1°C yesterday.
- Maximum Temperature: Slight rise from 24.7°C to 25.2°C.
- Humidity Levels: Fluctuating between 36% and 90%.
As the northeast monsoon exits South India and Western Disturbances influence North India the weather is gearing up for a transitional phase. Residents of Bengal should enjoy the fleeting winter chill, as rising temperatures loom post February 2nd.
