West Bengal is once again witnessing a horrific case of violence against women. A woman working as an ICDS worker was brutally attacked with acid in a public market after rejecting an indecent proposal from her neighbour. This shocking incident took place in the Krishna Nagar Bazaar area of Sagar, South 24 Parganas.

Details & Context

As per reports the victim an ICDS worker from Krishna Nagar Madhyapalli Center was repeatedly harassed by her neighbour Bapi Maiti. Despite her continuous refusals the accused kept making unwanted advances.

On the evening of the attack as the woman was returning home, Bapi allegedly threw acid on her before fleeing the scene. The victim suffered severe burns and was immediately rushed to a nearby health center for emergency treatment.

The horrifying incident has left the victim traumatised and has sparked outrage in the local community. A case has already been filed against the accused at Sagar Police Station, and an investigation is underway. However the accused remains at large.
