Fire at Sealdah Station, Chaos Among Commuters
The Indian Railways faced another alarming incident on Wednesday following a train accident in Cooch Behar the previous day. This time, a fire broke out in the Naihati Local train while it was stationed at Sealdah. The unexpected incident caused panic among early morning passengers at the station.
The incident occurred at “4:08 AM” on Platform No. 5 of Sealdah Station. Though the city was still waking up Sealdah remained busy with office-goers boarding the first local trains. Suddenly flames were spotted near the pantograph of the first coach as it came in contact with the overhead electric wires. Railway staff immediately raised an alarm and the power supply was cut off to prevent further danger.
Fortunately there were no passengers inside the affected coach at the time preventing any injuries or casualties. The train was quickly moved to the maintenance yard and an alternative “EMU rake” was arranged. As a result the first Naihati Local of the day departed at “4:19 AM” allowing daily commuters to continue their journey. However the early morning fire incident left passengers in shock.

Railway Safety Under Scrutiny After Recent Incidents
This fire accident comes just a day after a mishap in North Bengal’s “Bamanhat station” where an engine collided with a stationary coach of the Siliguri-bound Intercity Express injuring several passengers and damaging train compartments. Though officials stated that no major casualties occurred the incident raised concerns about railway safety.
In the past two years, India has witnessed multiple railway accidents sparking debates about passenger safety. These back-to-back incidents have once again put “Indian Railways infrastructure and security measures” under the scanner. Authorities must take necessary steps to prevent such mishaps and ensure safer travel for commuters.
