Passengers of the Bengaluru - Guwahati Express experienced a tense moment when the train suddenly stopped after a loud noise was heard near Belmuri station. Upon inspection railway staff discovered a track crack which could have led to a major accident. Fortunately the issue was detected in time and after urgent repairs the train continued its journey within an hour.
What Exactly Happened.?
According to railway sources a crack was detected on the Howrah - Bardhaman chord line near Belmuri station. The 12509 Bengaluru - Guwahati Express was passing through the area when a sharp noise was heard. The train shook violently before coming to an abrupt halt.
A railway gatekeeper who was on duty rushed to check the situation and found the crack. He immediately informed the station authorities, who dispatched repair teams to fix the issue.
Eyewitness Accounts
Gatekeeper Anil Das shared his experience,
“I heard a loud noise and the train stopped suddenly. When I checked I saw a visible crack on the track. I immediately informed the station.”
Passenger Rajshekhar who was onboard described the incident,
“The train was moving at high speed when suddenly there was a strong jerk. It stopped and when we got down we saw railway workers inspecting the tracks.”
Why Did the Track Crack.?
Railway officials believe that weather changes may have led to the track damage. Due to temperature fluctuations metal expansion and contraction can sometimes cause minor fractures in railway lines.
