South Bengal is facing an intense heatwave with temperatures soaring close to 40°C in multiple districts. The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued an alert for Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, West Bardhaman and Birbhum warning of extreme weather conditions. However a shift in weather is expected midweek bringing thunderstorms and rain to certain areas.

- Several districts in South Bengal are 5°C above normal temperatures, making it one of the hottest spells in March.

- Sunday will see continued heatwave conditions in Bankura, Birbhum, Jhargram, West Midnapore and West Bardhaman.

- Kolkata and surrounding areas will also experience discomfort with temperatures staying 3-4°C above normal.

Weather Shift Expected – Rain in North & South Bengal

- A cyclonic circulation over East Bangladesh is expected to weaken soon.

- Another weather system persists over Assam and Rajasthan with an extended trough from Rajasthan to Punjab.

- Darjeeling and Kalimpong may receive rain on Saturday, followed by Alipurduar on Sunday.

- South Bengal is likely to see rain and thunderstorms from Wednesday onwards, bringing relief from extreme heat.
