Mumbai Police has arrested a man allegedly connected to the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The incident occurred on January 16th at Saif's residence where he was assaulted with a knife.

Details & Context

After three days of investigation Mumbai Police apprehended the suspect in Thane based on multiple CCTV footages. Initially the man claimed his name was Vijay Das but later identified himself as Mohammed Sajjad and sometimes as Mohammed Alian. The suspect confessed his link to the attack but did not clarify whether he was the individual who entered Saif's house.

During questioning the accused revealed he worked at a restaurant. He was captured while sleeping in Thane. Authorities are bringing him to Mumbai for further interrogation.

Details of the Attack

The incident unfolded when Saif discovered the intruder hiding in the bathroom of his younger son Jeh’s room. Jeh’s nanny raised the alarm prompting Saif to intervene. The attacker armed with a knife assaulted Saif multiple times causing severe injuries. Saif was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital where doctors performed surgery to remove a broken knife piece lodged dangerously close to his spine.

Saif is recovering well but remains under observation. His injuries require bed rest, and he is expected to be discharged by January 21st although he will need ongoing care at home. Only close family members including his wife Kareena Kapoor and mother Sharmila Tagore are allowed to visit him.

Investigation and Arrest

The arrested suspect reportedly lived in West Bengal’s Nadia district but moved frequently to evade capture. The police suspect he stayed with labourers in Hiranandani Estate post-attack. Despite the confession authorities are yet to confirm whether the arrested man is the one captured on CCTV entering Saif's residence.

So far three individuals have been detained in connection with the attack. Police continue to investigate the motive and determine the extent of the suspect’s involvement.
