Metro Services Suspended for Four Days - What You Need to Know.!

Kolkata commuters, brace yourselves.!

From ‘Thursday to Sunday’ East-West Metro services will be completely suspended on both routes: 

- Howrah Maidan to Esplanade

- Sealdah to Sector V

This temporary shutdown is expected to cause major inconvenience especially for office-goers and daily commuters.

Why is the Metro Service Being Halted.?

The ‘East-West Metro Project’ is still under construction with operations currently split into two segments. Although the necessary infrastructure between ‘Esplanade and Sealdah’ is nearly ready it still requires ‘signalling upgrades’.

To complete this work metro services will remain ‘suspended from February 15th to 18’. Additionally another four-day shutdown is planned from ‘February 20th to 23rd’.

Alternative Transport Arrangements

To manage commuter rush during the metro suspension

More private buses will operate between ‘Howrah and Esplanade’.

Extra buses from Ultadanga to Salt Lake to accommodate passengers.

Government shuttle services may be introduced on select routes.

However officials have warned that these measures ‘may not fully ease the congestion’ especially for those commuting from ‘Sealdah South to Sector V’.

What This Means for Kolkata Commuters

With metro services on hold, passengers will have to rely on buses, cabs and other transport options. Expect longer travel times, overcrowding and higher demand for app-based cabs and autos.

Authorities urge passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and keep alternative travel options in mind.

While the metro closure is inconvenient these upgrades are essential for the full integration of the East-West Metro. Once completed the metro will offer faster, seamless connectivity across Kolkata.
