In a shocking incident happened in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh a young woman was shot dead by her father and cousin brother in front of police and panchayet leader. The 20 year old victim had refused an arranged marriage and choosing her own partner instead.
Details of the Incident
A gruesome murder took place in Gola Ka Mandir area of Gwalior on Tuesday night, where a father shot his daughter in the chest at point blank range. The victim Tanu Gurjar had expressed her wish to marry someone of her choice which her family vehemently opposed.
The situation escalated after Tanu shared a 52 second video on social media accusing that her father and family of harassment and death threats. She claimed that she had been assaulted regularly for opposing their decision. In the video she expressed fear for her life and held her family responsible for any harm that might come to her.
Tanu wanted to marry with her long time boyfriend Vicky whose real name is Vikham Mawai from Agra. Their six year of relationship was initially approved by her family but later they were rejected.
On Tuesday the local police and village leaders attempted to mediate during a panchayat meeting at Tanu’s home. During the discussions Tanu’s father Mahesh Gurjar demanded a private conversation with his daughter. Suddenly he pulled out a gun and shot his daughter in the chest. Her cousin Rahul followed with three more shots striking her forehead, neck and face.

Tanu died on the spot in front of shocked witnesses, including police officers and panchayat members. After the attack Mahesh threatened everyone with his weapon while Rahul fled the scene.
Investigation and Arrest
The police have arrested Mahesh Gurjar, while efforts to track down Rahul are ongoing. The authorities are also examining Tanu’s social media accounts for further evidence.
This tragic incident has left the community in shock and raised serious questions about the safety and rights of women in the region.
