A shocking incident has emerged from Ashoknagar where a secondary exam student allegedly died by suicide due to continuous harassment. The girl’s family claims that she was being threatened with an acid attack by a local youth. Following their complaint the accused has been arrested.

Details & Context

According to the Victim’s family a young man named Jasimuddin from the same village had been harassing the girl for a long time. On the day of her Bengali exam, she received a phone call from him which reportedly led to a heated argument. Later she was found hanging in her room.

The girl had been living with her maternal uncle since her mother passed away. Her uncle filed a complaint at the Ashoknagar police station against Jasimuddin and his parents. However the accused and his family fled after the incident.

The victim’s aunt stated that Jasimuddin frequently threatened the girl. He warned her that if she tried to interact with others or get married he would throw acid on her. Despite the family’s repeated warnings to the accused the harassment continued.

Meanwhile the secondary board exams have begun, with over “9.84 lakh students appearing this year” – “4.28 lakh boys and 5.55 lakh girls”. In another disturbing case a secondary exam candidate from Halisahar went missing. The student had gone to make photocopies of the history exam paper and never returned home. CCTV footage showed the student last seen in the neighbourhood before disappearing.

The family suspects foul play fearing that someone might have abducted the student to prevent them from taking the exam. “Police from Bijpur and Halisahar stations are actively investigating the case.”

Impact Analysis

These incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger measures to protect students especially young girls from harassment and threats. With rising concerns over student safety, authorities must ensure a secure environment for examinees.
