Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in These Districts – Hailstorm Alert Issued.!

top-news

Unstable weather conditions are set to impact several districts as multiple weather systems converge. A low-pressure trough stretching from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana along with cyclonic circulations over Rajasthan and Assam is triggering heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and possible hailstorms. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of severe weather till Sunday affecting agriculture and daily life in many regions.

Hailstorm and Thunderstorm Likely in Several Districts

The beginning of spring has brought unexpected hailstorms and thunderstorms to parts of Bengal. In Burdwan’s Galsi hailstorms have already been reported while rain continues in Asansol, Bankura and Purulia. Kolkata may also experience sporadic rainfall. Coastal districts are likely to face strong winds accompanied by rain.

IMD Forecast and Rainfall Pattern

The Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted scattered thunderstorms with lightning and rain until Sunday. Thursday and Saturday are expected to witness the heaviest downpours raising concerns about crop damage especially for potato farming.

Heavy Rainfall in North Bengal

Darjeeling and Kalimpong’s hilly regions are likely to experience prolonged rainfall with a chance of light snowfall at higher altitudes. Heavy showers are expected in all North Bengal districts over the weekend with Jalpaiguri and Malda also forecasted to receive rain from Thursday onwards.

Wind Speed and Severe Weather Alert

- South Bengal: Districts like Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore, East and West Burdwan and Hooghly may experience hailstorms and thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h.

- Kolkata, East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas: Strong winds of 30-40 km/h along with thunderstorms are likely.

- Saturday Forecast: Winds may intensify to 50 km/h in districts like East-West Burdwan, West Midnapore, Jhargram, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly and Nadia.

- Sunday Forecast: Winds at 30-40 km/h will impact East and West Midnapore as well as North and South 24 Parganas.

Temperature and Climate Impact

Despite continuous rainfall for four days no significant temperature drop is expected. The minimum temperature is likely to remain steady. Partly cloudy to fully overcast skies will persist with occasional bursts of rain accompanied by gusty winds.

Impact on Agriculture

Farmers are advised to take precautions as heavy rain and hailstorms pose a significant risk to Rabi crops. Agricultural scientists warn that potato crops may suffer the most damage.

With thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds forecasted residents are urged to stay cautious and follow weather updates. Authorities advise avoiding open areas during lightning and securing loose objects in storm-prone areas.
