On Monday morning at around 8 AM a horrific bus accident occurred in Uluberia, Howrah leaving 20 passengers injured. The accident took place on National Highway 16 near Srirampur where a stationary private bus was hit from behind by another bus traveling from Digha to Howrah.

Details & Context

According to police and local sources, the incident unfolded when a private bus on the Nandigram - Barasat route stopped in Srirampur to pick up passengers. Unaware of the sudden halt a Digha-Howrah bus following closely behind lost control and rammed into the stationary vehicle. The impact was severe, causing injuries to around 20 passengers aboard the front bus.

The two buses together carried nearly 100 passengers leading to panic and chaos at the accident site. Emergency services promptly arrived and the injured were rushed to Uluberia Sarat Chandra Medical College for treatment.

Police confirmed that the driver of the Digha - Howrah bus fled the scene. Both buses have been seized for further investigation.

Another Tragic Incident in Howrah

The chaos didn’t end there. Just hours before this accident on Sunday night another tragic event unfolded in Howrah's Kadamtala area. A woman pedestrian Archana Dutta (aged 57) lost her life after being hit by a motorcycle. The bike reportedly driven by Trinamool worker Arunava Dutta struck Archana while she was returning from a grocery store around 10:30 PM.

Arunava was accompanied by Abhijit Mondal, the youth Trinamool president of Ward 23 of Howrah Municipality. Witnesses alleged both riders were intoxicated. Though locals caught the riders after they fell into a drain while attempting to flee, Abhijit later managed to escape. Arunava has been detained by Batra Police Station and investigations are ongoing.
