Contrary to earlier reports claiming her body was cut into three pieces, the police have clarified that the body was not dismembered but forcibly stuffed into the bag, causing it to crumple.

The murder is believed to have occurred the previous night, after which the perpetrators transported the body from Madhyamgram to the city using a taxi. Preliminary investigations suggest a family dispute may have led to the killing.

Two women identified as Falguni Ghosh and her mother Arati Ghosh have been taken into custody. It is suspected that they are residents of Barasat. Despite initial rumours a post-mortem examination confirmed the body had not been cut into pieces but certain body parts appeared crumpled due to being forced into the trolley bag. The North Port police station is leading the investigation.
